Hospital Gardens Have Medical Benefits
The March 2012 issue of Scientific American has an article "Nature that Nurtures" about the proven healing benefits of a garden. As referenced in the article, young patients at Boston Children's Hospital enjoy the Prouty Garden :
In Harvard, The Virginia Thurston Healing Garden is a testament to the human connection with a garden's beauty and sensory experiences.
In my own life I observed how much my mother-in-law enjoyed flowers in her window boxes and flowers in her room during her decline from Alzheimer's disease. She loved sitting out in the patio garden during warm weather.

Flower Arranging: Topiaries
From Lois Frampton: Topiaries can be loose or tight in the style of Martha Stewart. They may or may not have greens. They are not symmetric; but they are balanced from all angles. There are several types of mechanics that can be used. The easiest is a candlestick which is at least 15" high. Lois will lead a workshop in topiary arranging on March 1, 2012 at Friendly Crossways. Contact Lois for more information. Lois' contact information is in the Garden Club yearbook.
